ClickTale
Michele Hinojosa, Director of Digital Analytics, Red Door Interactive

In the traditional world, we talk about the importance of being “above the fold”: appearing in the top half of the front page of a newspaper. However, on the web the picture is a little murkier. Website visitors will use different screen resolutions, browsers, window sizes and toolbars, essentially leading to a different “fold” line for every user.

Add in the proliferation of devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone) and the challenges are further compounded. So is there even the same impact of content being above or below the fold for online users as there is in the traditional world? Might this impact vary by user, by site, or by page?.

Staying Above or Scrolling Below the Fold?
On pages such as a home page, the location of content above or below the fold may have a greater impact. After all, when a visitor arrives to a site, they need to figure out what content or products to dive deeper into. In this case, products or content areas highlighted in the top area of the page may receive higher engagement, simply due to the higher number of “eyeballs” on it during an evaluation phase..

However, the same may not hold true for deeper pages within the site, or for all-in-one landing pages. On a product detail page, where reviewing the content on the page may be crucial for making a decision to proceed to the next step, the click-through rate for a call to action at the bottom of the page could potentially be higher than a call to action at the top of the page.

“According to a study of over 16,000 mobile YouTube users conducted by Google, 75% of respondents said that mobile is their primary way of accessing YouTube. At first glance, that figure may come as no surprise – after all, how shocking is at that a survey of mobile users finds that they watch a lot of YouTube Mobile? However, it’s actually a rather telling number. For some of us, watching YouTube on a mobile device is an additional way to watch video, not the primary way. But as it turns out, for a large majority of mobile video users, it’s completely the opposite.”
These key influencers are more than just fans — they’re brand ambassadors.”
While in the past we have shared our expertise with various charities, we are now excited to align our pro bono efforts with a single nonprofit. The commitment to one charity will fit into our overall business model which focuses on results-oriented, long-term construct. After much consideration Red Door has now chosen to align our business with the nonprofit, New Leaders for New Schools, which is a nationwide organization that recruits and trains aspiring urban public school principals.

New Leaders for New Schools aims to recruit, train and support exceptional leaders to dramatically improve the academic performance of students at urban public schools.

Red Door’s multi-year commitment to New Leaders for New Schools will enable us to apply our Internet Presence Management model, which has proven successful for us and our clients, to help NLNS continue to achieve its goal of attracting outstanding educators to drive change in urban public schools.

Red Door feels strongly about the work of New Leaders for New Schools and the organization’s success thus far has been notable. We are excited to see how our Internet Presence Management model will further help drive the results that the organization has already seen.
