With the support of a crew of almost 30 friends, family and co-workers RDI’s Lauren Dougherty brought the world one step closer to raising the necessary funds to one day create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis.
Diagnosed with MS at 26 Lauren has made a point to not let it slow her down. As a top fundraiser for the walk, Lauren was recently featured in the San Diego Union Tribune for her dedication to raising awareness about MS a chronic, unpredictable disease of the central nervous system. Lauren, along with approximately 400,000 Americans have MS, and every week about 200 people are diagnosed.
Since her diagnosis, Lauren has been committed to spreading awareness through her support of the MS Society, and specifically the Walk MS program. Together her group and the other 4,285 walkers at the Saturday, April 24th event in San Diego raised $398,819.
We here at RDI are devoted to helping fulfill Lauren’s dream of one day seeing a cure for MS. “Caring Hearts”, Red Door’s Philanthropy Committee, worked with the MS society to organize a volunteering opportunity for the agency. On Saturday a group of RDI employees volunteered at the Champion breakfast, where we served a catered breakfast to the true champions of the walk, those living with MS. After volunteering at the breakfast, we continued to show our support by participating in the scenic walk which took place at the NTC Park at Liberty Station. The day was filled with excitement, hope and passion in the pursuit of finding a cure one step and one dollar at a time. In addition, the Red Door Denver office will be participating in the Walk MS in Denver.
Lauren, we celebrate and congratulate you on your determination, altruism and worthy recognition!
