This is an interesting article, especially in terms of how bad experiences on the Web can adversely impact a brand - same way it happens in a store. And, it doesn't have to be "usability" as we traditionally think about it. A lot of the things mentioned here are engineering/technical break-downs - which can be classified as usability issues, but less on the side of visual/communication design. I was thinking that a site could be simple and easy to use, but if the transaction portion breaks down because of technical issues you're none the better, and the impact might even be worse because your last experience is what you usually remember.
