NEW DOMAIN NAME PROPOSED FOR MOBILE USERS
Technology and telecommunications companies are asking for a new Internet domain to help mobile users reach the Web more easily. Companies including Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Nokia (NOK) and Microsoft (MSFT) have asked the Internet's governing body, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, to create a domain, such as mobile. Mobile users with tiny screens on their phones have found using the conventional Web almost impossible to navigate. "If you went to a .mobile site, that site would be specifically tailored," a spokesman for Nokia told The New York Times. "The whole site would have been organized for speed of download, ease of use, and simplicity." The domain could have mobile-policies specific to the design and delivery of Web content. < CBS.MW >
-- COMMENT: Wouldn't you think that you would choose a TLD that would be a little easier to type on the mobile phone? Perhaps ".1", ".a" or something like it.
