Help us name our Carlsbad office conference rooms

Red Door Interactive: Latest post

We are in the homestretch of opening the Red Door Interactive Carlsbad office and need your help with one final task; naming the conference rooms! How does one name a conference room? Well, our Carlsbad office is just steps from the great Pacific Ocean, so we are hoping for something beach chic. And while nothing is completely off limits, at Red Door is not the kind of place where we name things “The Board Room,” though come to think of it – given how many of our employees love to surf…nah, we are sure you can be more creative than that!

When it comes to our conference spaces, the names not only need to tie in with our core values which are inspire, share, evolve, exceed and remain 100% jerk free, but also align with an overarching theme. Our downtown San Diego office’s conference spaces evoke a feeling of home (you should see us fight for the couch in the den!) fitting because RDI prides itself on providing employees with a cozy environment to be inspired and share ideas.

So back to Carlsbad, we have one lounge-style conference room (think a bit more casual) and a large convertible conference room that can be split into three smaller rooms. Leave a comment with your suggestions and if you win, consider yourself our special guest at the inaugural “Beer:30” on the first Friday we are open.

Once we have your input we will put together a poll where you can vote on the final names, including suggestions from our own employees.

The two rooms:
(1)   Lounge-style conference room

(2)   Large Convertible conference room

  1. You can go with some easy ones like the “cove” for the lounge style room and the “pier” for the large room. That way you can say things like, “Where is the meeting? on the Pier or the Cove?”

A more surf inspired name could be something like “barrel room”, “choka”, “goofy”, “grommet (for the smaller room)”, or “tube room”.

Is the meeting in the barrel or the grom (short for grommet)?

  2. Robert took my surf ideas. :)
Alternates… how about Cyclone, Tsunami or Typhoon? Those rooms will be where there’s a “storm of ideas.” I know, cheesy.

  3. You can go with local surfspot names like Swami’s, WindnSea, Sunset Cliffs, Black’s, Torrey Pines, etc..

  4. Name them after local breweries (Ballast Point, Alpine, Coronado, Firehouse, Green Flash, Lost Abbey, Mission) – it’ll be beer:30 ALL the time! ;)

  5. We like the way you think, and after all Beer:30 is a very important time here:) Thanks for your suggestions!

  6. Some lingo I picked up from Hawaii that might work well….
Da Kine – (slang for the best, as in, ‘I jus caught da kine wave, brah.’)
Kahuna – (Hawaiian god of sun, sand, and surf…the big kahuna).
Kai – (Hawaiian for ocean or sea).
360 – (maneuver done where the board/rider spin 360 degrees on the wave).
    Banzai, and of course….
    Aloha.
By the way…LUA is Hawaiian for bathroom so you could name that too!

  7. Corny idea:
How about hand gestures along with names?

The lounge could be the Shaka (sign) Room: It’s where everyone hangs loose.

The other could be the Peace (sign) Room: It splits into three “pieces.” It’s not a surf thing but I like the play on words.

  8. I like the Hawaiian theme ideas…you could also go with a Mediterranean beach theme with names like Barcelona, Santorini, Portofino, Cannes, Marseille, etc

  9. Teramar – Local surf break in Carlsbad.

Ponto – A state beach park in south Carlsbad.

  10. Welcome to Carlsbad! I live and have a business here and it is rad! Here are my suggestions…

    Tower 560
Lagoons (3 conference rooms…3 lagoons in Carlsbad?)

    or
    Tiki Lounge
    The Green Room

  11. So, my idea isn’t beach themed, but you said “nothing is completely off-limits,” so I’d just thought I’d throw this out there: Venice (back in the times before Italy was a unified country) was renowned for its astute diplomacy. Diplomacy, negotiation, communication–> conference room. See the connection? If you cared to add a classy flair (instead of a laid-back Southern Californian groove) to your conference rooms, you might consider a name like: the Rialto (THE famous bridge), the Gondola Room, San Marco (St. Mark’s Basilica), Lepanto (important naval battle)… Call me crazy.

But if you do chose the surf aesthetic, PLEASE, avoid the Hawaiian inspirations. SoCal has its own respectable surf culture. We’re not second place to some random volcanic rocks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Represent.
