We:30 Share and Tell: Stephanie's Baking
Every Wednesday at 3:30 we get together to celebrate an employee who exemplifies our core values to inspire, share, evolve, exceed and be 100% jerk-free. Our Share and Tell edition invites an employee to share something that inspires them and has a unique story. This week Stephanie shared her baking!
My Share & Tell is my love for baking. I have been baking since before I can remember; I learned my way around the kitchen alongside my great- grandmother (my cakes still don't compare to hers!) and my dad. They taught me how to be creative and to think outside of the box (cake). I learned that through precision, practice, and a little creative flair, you can create a cake that not only looks good, but tastes great too! At the age of sixteen, I sold my baked goods during the holiday season (when I knew demand was at its peak) and I earned enough money to go to Europe.
Over the years, I noticed that people wanted beautiful cakes, but they usually lacked in the flavor department. I did not want my family and friends to settle for mediocre cakes at extravagant prices, so I began baking for large events and celebrations. What started with a few birthdays and graduations, turned into a request for a full-blown wedding cake! It was a bit daunting to create something that would end up in someone's wedding album, but since the bride was a friend and asked me personally, I couldn't say no! It was a great challenge full of hard work (contrary to what Pinterest might make you believe), but I learned a few tricks and gained more confidence in my baking abilities. Since then, I have done two more successful wedding cakes.
Although baking can be messy, stressful at times and not good for your figure, it is still my favorite creative and tasty outlet.
