10 Ways to Feel Your Best at Work

No matter where you look or how you phrase it, there will always be a variety of tips on how to feel your best and the activities you should adopt for optimal performance. The truth is – we are all unique. We each require a different path to feel great on a daily basis and, more importantly, to carry that greatness into our workplace. Feeling your best allows you to function at your best, leading to a more efficient work ethic and a happier work environment overall. With the help of your Red Door friends, here are ten ways to feel your best at work each and every day.
1. Find your routine This really speaks to the uniqueness in all of us. Some are morning people and others would rather sleep half the day away before really getting into their to-do’s. Whatever works for you, find your routine and stick with it every day of the week.
2. Plan your day It may seem a little extreme to sort out your “to do’s” every day, but believe it or not, your life will feel much less hectic. Take the time to use your Outlook calendar, iCal or even go old-school and write it all out in a planner. Being able to visualize your day and the opportunities or challenges you may face will allow you to be prepared and ready to tackle anything that is thrown your way.
3. Have a little “me time” every day This one goes hand-in-hand with number two. As you plan out your meetings, lunches, appointments, etc.; be sure to set aside some time for yourself. Do whatever you heart desires. Maybe its meeting a friend for a quick coffee or going for a walk at lunch to clear your mind – however you use this time be sure to enjoy it.
4. Eat well Eating well not only fuels your body, but your brain too, and it truly is what gets you through the day. Start off with a healthy and filling breakfast to get your day started right, pack a nutritious lunch and stash healthy snacks at your desk to get you through those never-ending meetings. Lastly, try planning out your dinners on a weekly basis so that your evening meal comes together effortlessly when you get home from the office.
5. Exercise Along with eating well, exercising keeps your mood up and gives you the staying power to conquer all that your day holds. Even if you’re not a fan of the gym, try practicing healthy habits like walking your dog, taking the stairs or even standing during your conference calls. These little things can lead to a healthier, happier you.
6. SHARE Not only is this one of Red Door’s core values, but it is also an important habit to add to your daily routine. Share the success of a client, share the restaurant you ate at last night with your spouse, share your feelings and share your happiness. The people you work with are more than just your co-workers and the better you know each other, the better you’ll work together.
7. Jam out Music is like magic. It can calm us down, pump us up, feed our creativity and boost our moods. Whether you listen to music in the car, through ear-buds at your desk or have an office-wide jam session every afternoon, give music a try and see how much more you can accomplish and how much better you’ll feel.
8. Get some rest Everyone needs between seven to nine hours of sleep each night to feel their best and function well. If you’ve trained yourself to work all day on five or six hours of sleep, don’t try to change your routine overnight. Try getting in bed 10 minutes earlier each night until you can get yourself into the routine of going to bed at an hour that allows for maximum shut-eye. You’ll be ready to roll the minute you walk into the office and deliver higher quality work overall. Your co-workers will thank you!
9. Learn something new every day What better way is there to keep your mind fresh and your spirit open than learning one new thing each day? Maybe it’s a recipe your co-worker shared, maybe it’s a profound research strategy or maybe you even learned the lyrics to a new song. Be open to it and take it in. New information helps us beat boredom and keep our minds sharp. And who knows, you might discover something new about yourself!
10. Appreciate the little things in life With so many happenings each day, life can be overwhelming at times. To keep from feeling stressed or worn out, take a moment every day to appreciate the little things in life that put a smile on your face. If someone held the door open for you say thank you. If a stranger on the street said hello as you crossed paths give them a smile and carry that kindness into the office. If you’re having a rough day take a minute to look around and appreciate the pieces of your life that are constant and always joyful. Being appreciative of what you have will uplift your personality, better your work and increase your happiness.
